Who we are: Schattdecor is the global market-leader in the printed decorative paper industry using Rotogravure printing technology. The paper is printed with images of wood, stone, solid-color or fantasy designs. The finished paper is then sold to woodworking and furniture industries to be used in kitchen countertops and cabinets, closet systems and laminate flooring.

We are looking for an Assistant Press Operator (entry level) at our facility located in Maryland Heights, Missouri (near Hwy 270 and Page). The primary responsibility of an entry level Pressman (Production Employee) is to support the experienced Pressman to keep the printing press running in an orderly fashion. This involves multiple tasks around and with the press to keep things organized and prepared. There are eight levels of training to become an accomplished pressman, taking the inexperienced person usually three years to complete. There are opportunities for raises at each level. Production employees rotate, spending two weeks on first shift, two weeks on second shift, and then two weeks on third shift.

The successful candidate will offer the following:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, some college preferred
  • Mechanically inclined, with a basic understanding of mechanical processes
  • Ability to work both independently and in a TEAM atmosphere
  • Ability to remain calm when faced with a frustrating situation
  • Good communication skills
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Must be able to stand on your feet for an 8 hour shift
  • Must be able to lift overhead and/or move at least 50 pounds
  • Experience working in a printing environment a plus, but not required         
  •                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Daily tasks include:
  • Packaging finished printed paper rolls on a re-winder station
  • Splicing new base paper rolls on un-winder station
  • Mixing inks according to standards
  • Cleaning equipment with a high power washer
  • Swapping large cylinders and impression rollers in and out of the printing press
  • Entering finished product into a computer system
  • Measuring length and width of the product with a measuring tape
  • Measuring and tracking ink quantities Making ink additions using math fractions as directed
  • Driving a forklift to transport paper rolls to and from scale
  • Cleaning parts of the printing press and equipment; keeping areas clean
  • Understanding and applying recycling rules
  • Emptying paper baler and trim basket when necessary
  • Performing and assisting team members with various printing operations as needed
