401-k eligible, paid education

Do you enjoy working with your hands? Would you like to learn a career that would allow you to figure out how to solve and repair mechanical and electrical problems in a high tech manufacturing environment? If so, an Apprenticeship program may be right for you! We would like to hire one or two people for this apprenticeship to start immediately.

Who we are: Schattdecor (pronounced shot-decor) is the global market-leader in the printed decorative paper industry. Images of wood, stone, solid-color or fantasy designs are printed on large rolls of paper and then sold to the furniture industry. They cover it with a laminate and attach it to a hard surface to be used in kitchen cabinets, counter tops, closet systems and laminate flooring (think IKEA). The clean, modern St. Louis plant is spacious, yet with only about 60 employees, it has a caring, teamwork atmosphere. Our production facility is located in Maryland Heights, Missouri. We are west of Dave and Busters, near the intersection of I-70 and I-270.

Organization: Apprentices will work at Schattdecor 40 hours a week while on break and during the summer months. During the school year, they will work M-W-F, and go to Southwestern Illinois Community College (SWIC located in Belleville, Illinois) on T-TH. The schooling will last 3 years, and the apprentices will learn both mechanical and electrical processes. At the end of three years they will have earned their Associates degree.

Commitment: In return for Schattdecor providing on-the-job training to match the study program at SWIC and paying for their schooling, Apprentices sign a commitment to stay with Schattdecor for at least two years after their schooling ends. This is a five+ year commitment in total, depending on their hire date.

Pay: Apprentices are paid $12.00 an hour while at Schattdecor and a stipend of $40 a day on days they attend school. Apprentices are eligible for annual increases based upon their performance, attendance, and study habits.

Benefits: During the first 3 years, the apprentices would be eligible for our 401-k and Schattdecor would pay for their schooling. Once they earned their degree and became full-time they would be eligible for the full-range of our benefits.

Requirements: Apprentices need a high school diploma/GED, a willingness to work and study hard, and a strong aptitude for mechanical and electrical processes. In addition, they will need to have a certain score on the SAT/ACT or bypass those tests and take a college readiness test at SWIC. If approved, ICATT then accepts them into the Apprentice program.

Future: Once the Apprentices complete their degree, they will have a wonderful earning potential and advancement opportunity both at Schattdecor and in the fast growing Maintenance field!
